  23. many colors is your WB screen?

  25. GIFs have a maximum of 256 colors, JPEGs a max of 16 million.  WB
  26. dithers the image when displaying it as a backdrop to whichever colors
  27. it has available.  Some are taken from the icons, some from the image
  28. and there are those set by the palette prefs.

  30. Try converting the images to less colors than you have on your WB
  31. screen.  e.g. 32 color WB, 16 color image.

  33. After all that you're probably using a 24 bit WB screen, oh well.
